Starbucks Sales Decline - Closing 600 Stores Nationwide No ANWR Drilling Forces 12,000 Employees Out of Work. Starbuck's announced the closing of over 600 stores nationwide this past week. That will put more than 12,000 people out of work, mostly young people like me. Why are they closing their stores? People must choose between fuel and a cup of coffee. Newspapers are reporting: "Starbucks' sales and earnings have declined as cash-strapped consumers facing record gas prices cut back on gourmet coffee and other luxuries." ANWR - National Park, Wildlife Reserve, or Political Battleground? It seems that today it is all three, both a pristine example of nature, home to numerous species of indigenous healthy animals, and the site of the fight for the energy needed to provide YOUR power. Contained in the 22.5 million acres that ANWR covers, there is a huge petroleum reserve, one of the largest in the world. A reserve that contains the means to power your homes, provide jobs for American like yourself, and allow you, and all Americans to live without having to worry whether you can afford to buy groceries or gas. An oil reserve sufficient to END U.S. dependence on foreign oil but it is all locked up as an environmental preserve. There is a war going on and it is a fight is over your energy and your right to it. The environmentalists disguise ANWR as an unstable animal habitat, claiming that drilling, even piping over it, will destroy nature, and kill the animals. The simple truth however, is that these are lies, propagated to stop economic progress and growth, lies spread by people like Al Gore, who have proposed artificially raising gas to well over $5.00 a gallon. Imagine that! They are coming very close, too close to accomplishing that. Every day that we cannot tap our own oil reserves, is a day that they are winning and one day further from energy independence for you and me. One day closer to choosing between gas and food.
