| Food for Thought By Patrick Hughes SmartGreenUSA 30 May 2008   We all remember the crisis of deforestation, how the Amazon was being ripped down to build homes and gather wood. This is all old news; we did our part, donated our time and money and defeated this menace. But what if we didn’t? What if the rainforest is disappearing at an alarming rate and it’s not loggers who are responsible, but the “Eco-Terrorist”? Sadly this is no longer a “What if” scenario, it has become a terrible reality. The Eco-Terrorist, the same ones jacking up your energy prices, the same ones advocating the requirement of Ethanol in your gas, forcing you to pay premiums, are now destroying the very rainforests that they fought for. Millions of acres of traditional rainforest are being cut down, used to produce the biolfuel of America. This land, rich with wildlife is being destroyed to serve the Eco-Terrorist. As more and more money is invested in the production of the expensive inefficient fuel, farmers are forced to expand their land to envelope more of the natural jungle. Carter, a rancher living on the Amazon frontier states” It gives me goose bumps, it’s like witnessing a rape”. And that’s what it is, the disgusting waste of land and money, to pay off Washington lobbyists. But this destruction is not necessary, with the total environmental effect of Ethanol at a 1 to 1 with oil, it is no cleaner.  So why do we pay for this dirty fuel when oil is so much more abundant? Because we are being manipulated, all they say is that Ethanol burns cleaner; they never mention the decrease in you gas mileage, the increase in fuel prices, the increased wear to your car’s engine. They absolutely never mention the human costs. they never mention the people it starves or the land it destroys. They do not want you to know the truth. We are being manipulated by the Eco-Terrorist to put money into their bank accounts, to fund their greedy schemes. However the deforestation for a fuel that gives us nothing does not have to continue. We can stop it – You can stop it! This natural habitat can be preserved, as well as preserving our economy, our way of life, our pocketbooks. We can refuse to pay premiums on our gas, to put money in the Eco-Terrorist's pockets.  We can refuse inefficient destructive fuel, and say “We must be smart about our choices.” We can be Smart-Green. Trading one evil for another is hardly an improvement. So make them take Ethanol out of our gas, and save mileage, save the animal’s habitat, and most importantly save people from starving. Then, we really are conserving energy as we drive our cars, and not increasing waste by getting lower gas mileage, and paying more at the pump. Our hard earned dollars can be better spent elsewhere, as can the government subsidies that go into producing ethanol. By abandoning the Ethanol fad we can not only save the planet, but save our economy. In this a time of economic hardship why do we need greedy politicians and Eco-Terrorists taking money out of our pocket, when instead we can use that money to make new better, efficient forms of energy. Ethanol is just another tax on your hard earned money. The government just found a way to make the pill easier to swallow. They made you feel you were doing something to help the environment. When the truth is people are starving as we put Food into our cars instead of in their bellies. But the fight is in your hands, DEMAND gasoline without ethanol, force the government to stop giving farmers money to grow crops that are not food and to not grow crops at all, take away the finances that are supporting the destruction of the rainforests.
